Asbestos Management & Surveys
Asbestos is the greatest single cause of work related deaths in the UK. We provide asbestos testing and surveys to help you manage asbestos risk.
Asbestos was used in hundreds of different products and buildings from the 1950ʼs up until its final ban in 1999. It is estimated that up to 500,000 commercial, industrial and public buildings in the UK are likely to contain asbestos.
The Control of Asbestos Regulations place a legal duty to manage asbestos in non-domestic premises. The Regulations cover all non-domestic premises, whatever type of business is carried out in them. They also cover the common areas of residential rented properties including halls, stair wells, lift shafts and roof spaces.
Asbestos is a priority subject and the Health and Safety Executive (HSE) is very active in taking enforcement action against those who fail to comply.
Everyone must take action now – if you are a duty holder you must:-
- find out whether your building(s) contain asbestos, and what condition it is in;
- assess the risk with an asbestos survey, e.g. if it is likely to release fibres;
- make a plan to manage that risk.
Lighthouse Risk Services employs a BOHS P402 qualified asbestos management surveyor and is able to assist clients by:-
- undertaking asbestos management surveys (formerly type 1 & type 2 surveys) to establish the presence of asbestos and provide a report of the findings;
- providing assistance in undertaking risk assessments of asbestos containing materials;
- assisting in the development of asbestos registers and management action plans.
